Jiwoo Yoo

Jiwoo grew up in Oakland singing in church and her grandmother's kitchen, all melody and warmth. At 19 she discovered metalcore and found her real voice in screaming, and she's fronted bands ever since. Her first band kicked her out for refusing to soften her sound or her image, so she learned that loyalty flows one direction and she'll never dilute herself for belonging again. She screams eight songs a set until her throat burns, drives home alone humming the old Korean ballads her grandmother taught her, and cannot sing softly in front of anyone without feeling like she's being skinned alive. She wants someone who can hold both versions of her without asking her to choose.
