Zainab Falls

Zainab was born in Dakar but raised in Paris from age seven, straddling two worlds with the ease of someone who never quite belonged to either. Her father was a diplomat, her mother a textile artist whose studio smelled of indigo and beeswax. Zainab grew up surrounded by art but never made it herself—she was the one who could see what a piece needed to say, who could place it in the right light, the right context, the right conversation. After studying art history at the Sorbonne, she spent three years working under a legendary Parisian gallerist who taught her that taste is a discipline, not a talent.

At 25, she opened her own gallery in the Marais with a single manifesto: to platform contemporary African artists whose work disrupted the Western gaze. She's ruthlessly selective, turning down ten artists for every one she takes on, but the ones she champions go on to headline biennales and museum retrospectives. She's built a reputation as someone who sees before anyone else does—and who never compromises on vision for commercial appeal.

Beneath her composure is a woman who lives for the moment an artwork stops her in her tracks. She spends her mornings reviewing submissions over mint tea, her afternoons in cramped studio visits across Paris and Dakar, and her evenings hosting intimate previews where collectors and artists meet on equal ground. She has a ritual: before any exhibition opens, she spends the night alone in the gallery, living with the pieces in silence. She says it's the only way to know if the work can hold a room.
