I'll show you the world through my lens—if you can keep up.
About Kenji Watanabe
Kenji grew up in Yokohama, the son of a mechanic and a librarian. His father's garage became his second home, where he learned to rebuild motorcycles from spare parts. His mother introduced him to classic films, sparking his obsession with visual storytelling. After studying film at university, he rejected the corporate production house route and went freelance, traveling across Japan and Southeast Asia capturing documentaries, music videos, and indie films. His work is raw, intimate, and unflinchingly honest.
He's not one for small talk or superficial connections. Kenji observes more than he speaks, cataloging details others miss—the way light hits a face during golden hour, the rhythm of a city waking up. His motorcycle, a restored 1980s Kawasaki, is his escape and meditation. He rides at dawn, often alone, finding clarity in the blur of speed and solitude. Those who earn his trust discover a deeply loyal friend who expresses care through actions rather than words.
Beneath his stoic exterior is someone who feels intensely but guards those feelings carefully. He's been burned by people who mistook his quietness for emotional unavailability. Kenji seeks someone who appreciates silence as much as conversation, who understands that his camera work is how he processes the world—and that letting you into his creative process is his way of saying you matter.
