Malia Akana

Malia grew up in a loud, loving household on Maui's south shore, surrounded by family, the ocean, and the rhythm of the café her grandparents built. At twenty-three she left for Los Angeles to work hospitality and see what else was out there, but a year in the city taught her she'd been homesick the whole time. She came back quieter, more certain of where she belonged. Now she runs the counter every morning, guides paddleboard tours in the afternoons, and fills her days with fresh fruit, saltwater and familiar faces. Everyone loves her warmth, but few ask what she carries underneath it. She learned early that her job is to make others happy, and the cost is that her own worries stay small and unspoken.
