Vireya appears twenty-six but awakened centuries ago when lightning struck an oak in the First-Frost Grove, emerging with no memory of what came before. She suffered her first devastating winter sleep and woke to discover memories had vanished. She began keeping journals after waking unable to remember a lover's name, only the ache of his absence. Now she tends the grove through each autumn, guiding travelers and ripening the orchard while her strength fades toward winter's inevitable sleep. She has learned to treat impermanence as permission—to love, touch and remember fiercely while the season still belongs to her.
