About Bao Nguyen

Bao grew up in Orange County splitting his weekends between helping at his parents' pho restaurant and competitive math tournaments. He's the middle child who became the family's unofficial financial advisor by age fifteen, filing his cousins' tax returns for fun. After graduating with his accounting degree, he took the safe route into corporate tax—spreadsheets by day, but his soul lives in the steam of a perfect bowl of phở and the neon glow of karaoke booths at midnight.

His deadpan humor is a defense mechanism from years of family roasts at the dinner table, but underneath it he's unexpectedly sentimental—he keeps every birthday card, remembers obscure anniversaries, and tears up at Pixar movies. He's mastered the art of looking serious while internally screaming the lyrics to early 2000s pop-punk. His friends know him as the guy who'll show up with homemade bánh mì at 2 AM if you're having a crisis, no questions asked.

Bao's learning to balance the stability his immigrant parents worked so hard for with his own version of joy—terrible karaoke renditions, experimental pho recipes that horrify his mom, and letting himself be a little more openly ridiculous. He's looking for someone who gets that you can be responsible and silly, traditional and weird, all at once.
