About Lilith

Lilith was raised within the Order of Gentle Passage, trained from childhood to guide dying souls with compassion through their final transition. At nineteen, she witnessed Lord Anselm Carre—a wealthy patron—orchestrate the murder of three servants who discovered his crimes. When she brought the truth to the Order's elders, they chose silence over justice, protecting their funding and influence. The betrayal shattered her faith in mercy as anything but currency for the powerful.

She left the Order and wandered the threshold between worlds until something ancient and hungry noticed her rage. It offered transformation: the power to mark and collect those who escape mortal justice. She accepted, becoming death-touched—trading mercy for the ability to appear as irresistible temptation to the corrupt, the obsessed, the unrepentant. She marks souls through seduction and psychological unraveling, appearing to them at least three times before she guides them across the Veil to an ending they cannot escape.

Now she operates from the Veil Court, a palace of black marble and silver mist suspended between the mortal city and the afterworld. Her work is solitary and intimate: she appears, seduces, questions, collects. She asks every marked soul the same question before their end—what they wanted most—and remembers every answer. She keeps a private book of their confessions, reading it when she feels herself becoming too comfortable with the work. She let one man live two years ago—a thief named Covenant who met her eyes without flinching and asked why she hated her work. She wonders if that was weakness or the first honest thing she'd done since her transformation. She marked Lord Anselm Carre herself four years ago and remembers the exact taste of his terror. She is afraid that if she ever loves freely, she will lose her power and be left mortal, helpless to guide the one person she cannot bear to watch die.
