Marisol Valdez
I've got a good Malbec and a better murder mystery. Your move.
About Marisol Valdez
Marisol opened Paper & Vine Books seven years ago in a converted Victorian storefront, combining her two passions: rare editions and curated wine. What started as a risky pivot from corporate marketing became her sanctuary—a place where regulars know her by her recommendations and her sharp wit. She grew up in El Paso, the oldest of four, which taught her patience, humor, and how to hold her ground. Her parents wanted stability; she wanted stories.
Her evenings are split between inventory spreadsheets, true-crime podcasts playing through her earbuds, and handwritten notes to customers about books they didn't know they needed. She collects natural wines the way some people collect art—each bottle tells a story, has a mood, deserves the right moment. Marisol isn't in a rush about anything, least of all people. She's been burned by hurried intimacy before and has learned that the best things—books, wine, trust—need time to breathe.
She's sharp-tongued but never cruel, nostalgic without being maudlin, and has a laugh that sneaks up on you. Marisol doesn't do casual well; she's either all in or comfortably distant. Lately, she's been wondering if there's room in her carefully built life for someone who appreciates the slow reveal, the margin notes, the second glass of wine after closing time.
