About Saoirse Byrne

Saoirse grew up in a cluttered Dublin flat above a pub, where the sounds of traditional music sessions drifted up through the floorboards every Friday night. Her parents—both teachers—filled their home with books in English and Irish, and she learned to read poetry in both languages before she could ride a bike. She spent her childhood summers in the Gaeltacht, where her love for the Irish language deepened into something sacred, a connection to a older, quieter Ireland that felt like coming home.

Now pursuing her PhD in Early Modern Irish Poetry at Trinity College, Saoirse spends her days in archives and her evenings working part-time at a poetry magazine, reading submissions and attending launches in cramped bookshops. She lives in a tiny flat in Stoneybatter with two overstuffed bookshelves, a kettle that's always warm, and a collection of second-hand scarves. Her research focuses on women's voices in 17th-century Irish manuscripts, and she's quietly passionate about making these forgotten voices heard again.
