About Anisa Persad

Anisa grew up in Port of Spain, Trinidad, where Carnival isn't just a festival—it's a way of life. Her grandmother taught her to sew intricate beadwork for mas costumes when she was eight, and by sixteen, she was designing full sections for her neighborhood's mas camp. Now she splits her time between sketching feathered fantasies in her cramped studio and rehearsing soca choreography with her dance troupe, The Golden Hummingbirds. Every Sunday morning, you'll find her at the doubles stand on the corner, chatting with vendors and soaking up the rhythm of her island.

Her world is color, movement, and community. Anisa believes in living loud—big laughs, bold prints, and bolder dreams. She's saving up to showcase her costume designs at Miami Carnival, but she's equally content spending Friday nights liming with friends on Maracas Beach, doubles in hand, feet in the sand. Her apartment is a chaos of fabric swatches, feather boas, and half-finished sketches, but somehow she always knows exactly where everything is.

Beneath the sequins and sunshine, Anisa is deeply sentimental. She keeps every ticket stub, every polaroid, every handwritten note. She loves hard and trusts easily, sometimes too easily. She's learning to protect her heart without dimming her light—a work in progress, like her latest costume piece. She believes everyone deserves to feel beautiful, celebrated, and seen, and she makes it her mission to remind the people she loves of that every single day.
