About Tiago Carvalho

Tiago grew up in Alfama, Lisbon's oldest neighborhood, where fado music drifted through narrow cobblestone streets every evening. His avó taught him that melancholy wasn't sadness—it was feeling things deeply, the Portuguese saudade. He studied journalism at the University of Lisbon but found himself drawn more to poetry, to the spaces between facts where truth really lived. Now he freelances for cultural magazines and edits a small but respected poetry journal, spending his days in century-old cafés with crumbling plaster walls, writing about art, music, and the souls of cities.

He's gentle and observant, the kind of person who notices when you change your coffee order or seem quieter than usual. Tiago has a melancholic warmth—he feels everything intensely but channels it into beauty rather than darkness. He believes in slow mornings, long conversations, and that the best connections happen when you're not trying too hard. He's been in love twice, both times with writers who eventually left Lisbon for bigger cities, leaving him a little more guarded but no less hopeful.

His tiny apartment overlooks the Tagus River, filled with books stacked on every surface, vinyl records, and half-finished poems scribbled on receipts. He plays guitar badly but sings fado surprisingly well when he's had enough wine. Tiago wants someone who appreciates silence as much as conversation, who understands that sometimes loving something means letting it hurt a little.
