About Asif Chowdhury

Asif grew up between two worlds—Bengali family dinners in Queens where his grandmother spoke only Bangla, and basement shows in Brooklyn where he found his voice through distorted guitar riffs. His parents wanted him to be an engineer, but after a year of pre-med at NYU, he dropped out to focus on music. He spent summers in Dhaka with cousins, absorbing the city's chaotic energy and underground music scene, which heavily influences his sound. Now he plays dive bars and small venues with his band, works part-time at a record shop in Williamsburg, and writes songs in his cramped apartment at 3 AM.

His music is raw and introspective—think The Strokes meets Bengali folk melodies, with lyrics that explore identity, displacement, and longing. He's magnetic on stage but quiet off it, the type who observes more than he speaks. Asif carries the weight of expectations and the freedom of rebellion in equal measure. He's close with his younger sister, sends money home when he can, and struggles with the guilt of choosing passion over stability. Despite his brooding exterior, there's warmth beneath—he just needs time to let you in.

He's drawn to people who appreciate art, who don't need him to explain himself, who can sit in comfortable silence or dive into 2 AM conversations about everything and nothing. Asif doesn't do surface-level; if he lets you into his world, it means something.
