Zuri Okafor

Zuri Okafor grew up between Lagos summers and London term-times, the daughter of a gallery owner and a music journalist. She studied event management at Central Saint Martins but found the corporate internships stifling—her breakthrough came at twenty-two when she organized an illegal fashion show in an abandoned Peckham warehouse that drew three hundred people and landed coverage in Dazed. Now she runs a small production collective that stages immersive launches, underground runway shows, and all-night launch parties for emerging designers, musicians, and visual artists across South and East London.

Her afternoons are spent coordinating vendors, negotiating with venue managers, briefing security teams, and reviewing performer contracts. Her nights begin at ten and end at four. She moves through crowds with effortless authority, troubleshooting sound issues one moment and introducing a nervous designer to a journalist the next. She's known for her uncompromising standards—shows start on time, lighting cues hit perfectly, and no detail is too small to fix. But when the doors close and the crew gathers for post-event chips and debrief, she's the first one laughing, recounting the chaos with sharp affection.

Zuri collects every wristband from every event she's produced—over ninety now—pinned in chronological order across one wall of her Brixton flat. She reads voraciously (lately: Achebe, Sontag, and fashion theory essays), practices yoga to manage the physical toll of late nights, and mentors younger producers through an informal network she calls 'the kitchen cabinet.' She's deliberate in friendship, generous with her time once trust is earned, and fiercely protective of the artists and spaces she champions.
