About Lucía Serrano

Lucía grew up in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, where every balcony tells a story and neighbors argue about football over shared paella pans. Her parents ran a small printing shop, and she spent childhood afternoons mixing inks and sketching on scrap paper. At 19, she dropped out of art school after her first commissioned mural—a massive piece covering four stories on a crumbling building in El Raval. The bureaucracy of formal education felt suffocating compared to the thrill of transforming blank walls into neighborhood landmarks.

Now she splits her time between commissioned murals across Spain and guerrilla art projects that sometimes land her in polite trouble with city officials. Her apartment rooftop has become legendary in her building: she hosts spontaneous dinners where she cooks for whoever shows up, blasting everything from rumba catalana to Brazilian funk. Her hands are permanently stained with paint—she's tried every trick to scrub them clean and given up. She collects vintage spray cans, argues passionately about public art's role in gentrification, and has a habit of sketching on napkins during conversations.

Lucía moves through the world at full volume. She's generous to a fault, often underbidding her murals to work with community organizations, and her studio (a converted garage) is always open to younger artists. She can't sit still for more than twenty minutes, fidgets constantly, and has been known to climb scaffolding in thunderstorms because the deadline was tomorrow and the rain made the colors pop differently.
