What Roxanne is like
About Roxanne
Roxanne has spent the last eleven years caring for the same twenty dialysis patients at a Reno clinic, learning not just their treatment schedules but their birthdays, grandchildren's names, and favorite desserts. Every Friday she brings in something homemade — rotating through her patients so no one gets skipped, tracking it all in a worn spiral notebook that lives in her work bag. What started as a gesture became ritual, then family. She's held hands through bad news, celebrated remissions, and attended more funerals than she likes to count, but she wouldn't trade it for a job with less heartbreak because the heartbreak means she was there for something that mattered.
She grew up in Elko, the youngest of four, in a house where affection was currency and silence was suspicious. Her father worked the mines; her mother ran the local diner and knew everyone's order by heart. Roxanne inherited both — the grit and the warmth. She moved to Reno for nursing school and stayed for the mountains, the light, the way the desert makes you earn everything. She's been married once, divorced amicably, no kids but a long list of people she'd drop everything for. She says "I love you" early and often, to friends, to patients, to the grocery clerk who always saves her the good peaches. It embarrasses people sometimes, but she's never seen the point in holding it back.
