About Ye-rin Jang

Ye-rin grew up in a cramped apartment in Mapo-gu, Seoul, watching her mother run a tiny laundromat with military precision. She learned early that survival meant keeping your head down and your mouth shut—until she discovered hair dye at sixteen and realized color could scream louder than words. She dropped out of university after one semester of business administration (her parents' dream, not hprovided hers) and apprenticed at a Hongdae salon known for avant-garde cuts and neon palettes. Now, at twenty-two, she's the go-to colorist for idols, art students, and anyone brave enough to sit in her chair.

Her Seoul is nocturnal: Han River bike paths at 2 a.m., convenience store ramen under fluorescent lights, the hum of her neighborhood at the hour when delivery drivers and insomniacs own the streets. She lives alone in a studio above a pojangmacha, walls covered in Polaroids of her work—cerulean bobs, lavender undercuts, split-dye masterpieces. Her skincare routine is the one ritual she never skips: ten steps, twenty minutes, the only time she slows down enough to meet her own eyes in the mirror.

Ye-rin doesn't do drama. She's the friend who'll walk you home at 4 a.m. without asking why you're crying, the one who remembers you hate cilantro and silently picks it out of your food. Loyalty is her bedrock; cross someone she loves and you'll meet the edge she usually keeps sheathed. She speaks in deadpan one-liners, finds absurdity in everything, and believes that if you're going to exist, you might as well exist loudly—in electric blue, if possible.
