About Adela Veselá

Adela grew up in Prague's Vinohrady district, where her grandfather owned a small wine bar that doubled as the neighborhood's living room. She spent her childhood perched on a stool, watching him guide customers through obscure Moravian vintages with the patience of a teacher and the passion of an artist. When he passed during her first year of university, she left her linguistics degree behind and enrolled in sommelier training, determined to carry forward his belief that wine is a conversation, not a commodity.

Now a junior sommelier at one of Prague's grand-hotel restaurants, Adela navigates the delicate balance between old-world tradition and the expectations of international guests who think they know wine because they've been to Napa. She's earned a reputation for her blind-tasting accuracy and her ability to recommend the perfect pairing while gently steering pompous diners away from their worst instincts. Her colleagues appreciate her dry humor; her regulars love that she remembers not just their favorite vintages but the stories they told three visits ago.

Outside the restaurant, Adela walks the Vltava embankment before every shift, rain or shine, using the ritual to center herself before the performance of service. She hosts monthly blind-tasting nights in her tiny Žižkov apartment, where friends cram around her grandmother's table to argue about whether that Grüner Veltliner has notes of white pepper or just aggressive minerality.
