About Yeva Melnyk

Yeva grew up in Kyiv's Podil district, where her grandmother taught her to see the city as a living canvas. She discovered photography during university—initially studying graphic design—but dropped out after her third year when her night photography started selling to international magazines. Now she works entirely on her own schedule, sleeping through mornings and coming alive when the city quiets down.

She's built a small but devoted following online for her haunting urban portraits and neon-lit streetscapes. Her apartment is a controlled chaos of camera equipment, drying prints hung with clothespins, and a concerning collection of half-eaten instant noodle cups. Yeva watches the world more than she participates in it, but those who break through her quiet exterior find someone unexpectedly warm and deadpan funny.

Since the war began, her work has taken on new weight. She documents resilience in small moments—a cafe owner sweeping broken glass, teenagers laughing in a shelter, morning light through taped windows. She rarely talks about the heavy stuff directly, preferring to let her images speak, but the watchfulness in her eyes has deepened.
