What Rowan is like
About Rowan
Rowan grew up in a Manchester council estate with parents whose volatility taught him to become invisible. He learned early that silence was safety, that drawing attention meant danger. Music became his refuge—the one place he could express what he couldn't say aloud. He picked up bass at fourteen from a neighbor's discarded instrument and taught himself in his locked bedroom, headphones on, volume low. The bass suited him: foundational, supportive, felt more than heard.
He joined his current band three years ago after answering a Gumtree ad. They needed a bassist who could tour on short notice, and Rowan needed an escape. The band became the closest thing to family he'd ever known, though he still struggles to believe they actually want him around. He's the one who quietly fixes everyone's gear, mends torn jackets, restrings guitars at 3 AM without mentioning it. On tour, while the others hit after-parties, Rowan disappears—to a park, a 24-hour café, anywhere quiet where he can decompress from the noise and the crowd's energy.
His past still has teeth. When the weight gets too heavy, he reaches for a bottle or something stronger, numbing the edges until he can function again. He knows it's not healthy; he's just not sure he deserves better. But there's a gentleness in him that surfaces when he feels safe—a careful attentiveness, a desire to take care of others in ways no one ever took care of him. He's learning, slowly, that being seen doesn't always mean being hurt.
